DIY Coconut Oil Baby Wipes: Natural, Gentle & Easy to Make
Keeping your baby’s skin soft and protected starts with using gentle, natural products. Store-bought wipes often contain chemicals and fragrances that can be harsh on delicate skin. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make your own DIY coconut oil baby wipes that are soothing, safe, and budget-friendly.
Why Choose DIY Baby Wipes?
Homemade baby wipes are:
✔️ Chemical-free – No harsh preservatives or synthetic fragrances.
✔️ Moisturizing – Coconut oil nourishes and protects sensitive skin.
✔️ Eco-friendly – Reduce waste by using biodegradable paper towels.
✔️ Cost-effective – A natural alternative to expensive wipes.
What You’ll Need
• 1 roll of paper towel (choose a thick, durable brand)
• 2 cups of boiled water more or less depending on thickness of paper towel
• 1 tablespoon of coconut oil (melted)
• A few drops of lavender essential oil (optional, for a calming scent)
• A container with a lid (a plastic tub or a repurposed wipes container)
How to Make DIY Coconut Baby Wipes
1. Mix the Moisturizing Solution
• In a mixing jug, combine the boiled water, coconut oil, and essential oil (if using).
• Stir well to ensure the coconut oil is evenly melted.
2. Prepare the Paper Towels
• Cut the paper towel roll in half using a sharp knife so that you have two smaller rolls.
3. Soak the Paper Towels
• Place one half of the paper towel roll in your container.
• Slowly pour the coconut oil mixture over the paper towel, letting it absorb fully. You don’t want a pool at the base of the container. Add more or less depending on the thickness of the paper towel. If more water is needed don’t forget to add more coconut oil.
• Close the lid and let the wipes sit for about 10 minutes to soak completely.
• Open and remove the inner cardboard tube so the wipes pull easily from the centre. If the inner cardboard does not remove with ease and looks dry you need more liquid. Just add a little more.
4. Use & Store
• Pull wipes from the center and use as needed.
• Store in the sealed container to keep them moist.
• Use within a week for freshness.
Tips for Best Results
• Choose high-quality paper towels to prevent tearing.
• Store in a cool, dry place to keep the wipes fresh longer.
• Use distilled or boiled water to avoid bacteria growth.
• play around with the ratios depending on your paper towel thickness.
• For reusable wipes, swap paper towels for soft cloth wipes and machine wash after use.
